Success in real estate requires a combination of skills, knowledge, and a strong work ethic. However, having the right habits can make all the difference in achieving your goals and building a thriving business. Here are the top habits of successful real estate agents that can help you unlock your potential and grow your business.
1. Lead generation: One of the most important habits of successful real estate agents is a consistent focus on lead generation. This can include activities like prospecting, networking, and marketing. By consistently building your pipeline of potential clients, you will have a steady stream of business and will be able to build a reputation as a top agent in your market. This is the area where I see most agents fail. They get busy with a few clients and lead generating goes to the back burner, sometimes for months. If you develop a consistent lead generation system, you’ll be able to build a really strong and thriving business.
2. Time management: Time management is crucial in real estate, as you have to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities on a daily basis. Successful agents make the most of their time by setting clear priorities, delegating tasks when necessary, and using tools and technologies to streamline their work. Today’s agents can use tools like artificial intelligence (AI) for writing listing descriptions, social media schedulers for batching and uploading content and outsourcing photography and video to ensure a professional look every time.
3. Continuous learning: The real estate market is constantly changing, and to stay ahead, successful agents make learning a habit. This includes staying up-to-date on market trends, attending industry events and seminars, and continuously improving their skills and knowledge. Make sure your brokerage or your local association is invested in educating agents. Knowing how to guide and protect your clients showcases your value and will bring you business and referrals throughout your lifetime.
4. Networking: Networking is a vital habit for real estate agents, as it allows you to build relationships with other professionals in your industry, as well as potential clients. This can include attending local events, joining professional organizations, and connecting with other agents through social media. As early in your career as possible, it is important to make the right alliances with other agents, lenders, escrow officers, repair specialists, inspectors and other professionals to ensure you have the best team supporting your growing business.
5. Customer focus: Successful agents make their clients their top priority, and consistently go above and beyond to ensure they are satisfied. This includes excellent communication, attention to detail, and providing a high level of customer service. Making sure your clients know and understand the value you bring is essential.
6. Goal setting: Having clear, specific goals is crucial in real estate, as it gives you a roadmap to success. Successful agents make goal setting a habit, regularly reviewing and adjusting their goals to ensure they are on track to achieve their desired outcomes. I recommend that my coaching clients review their goals annually, quarterly and then break them down by month, week and day as needed.
